There’s something special about a home that reflects its owner’s hands-on love and creativity. That’s exactly what you’ll find at Kingy Kottage – a charming 70’s home in Kingscliff in northern NSW that’s been slowly and lovingly transformed by its owner, Mel & Mitch (@kingy_kottage).
This project is a DIY dream, and we’re so thrilled that Tile Lane could play a small part in its journey.
From Family Influence to Front Entrance Vision
“I grew up watching my parents renovate our home on a budget,” says the Mel, homeowner. “It was really cool because they taught me so much and gave me the confidence to give projects a go.”
That influence clearly stuck. While some parts of the renovation have involved the pros, much of the work has been tackled solo – including the show-stopping transformation of the front entrance.
“As soon as we bought the house, I knew how easily we could update the entrance with beautiful new tiles,” she shares. “I wanted something that felt like us – and arches were a no-brainer with our arched windows and entryway.”
Finding the Perfect Tile
Like many of our customers, Mel's hunt for the perfect tile began online. “I stumbled across Tile Lane by googling ‘arch tiles’ – and as soon as I saw the Heritage Duomo Arch Olive Green tile, I knew they were the one.”
And honestly, we can see why. These 200x200 encaustic-look beauties offer a rich, earthy olive tone with a soft matte finish – and the arch pattern brings a subtle yet striking design moment to any space.
“They are even more beautiful in real life,” Mel says. “Easy to clean, easy to cut, and easy to install.”
To complete the look, she paired them with Davco Mocha grout, which complements the warm tones of the tile perfectly and adds just the right amount of contrast.
DIY, But Make It Gorgeous
Time was the biggest challenge in bringing this project to life – like most of us, finding a spare weekend isn’t always easy. But now that it’s done?
“I can’t believe I didn’t prioritize this project sooner! It’s made such a difference to the feel of our home.”
While there are still finishing touches to come, the entrance already sets the tone for the rest of the house – relaxed, warm, and full of personality.
