Cornering with Valais Porcelain Wall Cladding Tiles

With their striking 3D stone texture, our Valais series provide the sophisticated appearance of natural stone cladding while offering the durability and ease of installation of porcelain tile.

A common question we receive involves how to handle corners, especially when wrapping around a column. Let’s explore the best methods for achieving a flawless finish.

Solutions for Handling Corners

Corners can present a bit of a challenge, but with the right approach, you can achieve a polished and professional result. Here are the two primary methods for tackling corners with Valais tiles:

1. Aluminium Trims

For those looking for a straightforward, easy-to-do and budget-friendly solution, aluminium trims are an excellent option. There are different types of trims to choose for, so consider your options properly. Here’s a basic guide on how to use these trims:

  • Start by measuring the height of the corner, then cut the aluminium trim to match the height.
  • Apply a layer of tile adhesive to the corner and press the trim into position. Ensure it is level and aligned properly.
  • Once the trim is securely in place, proceed with tiling. The trim will neatly cover the raw tile edges and provide a clean finish.

Using aluminium trims is a practical solution that simplifies the tiling process, making it accessible for DIY enthusiasts while ensuring a professional appearance.

2. Mitre Cuts

For those with more experience or a willingness to tackle advanced techniques, mitre cuts can offer a beautifully seamless look. Here’s a basic guideline to mitring tile:

  • Mitre cuts require a tile cutter with a mitre function or a wet saw. If you’re not familiar with these tools, practice on some spare tiles to perfect your technique.
  • Measure and cut the tiles at a 45-degree angle to create a clean join at the corner. This technique allows the tiles to meet seamlessly, enhancing the continuity of the stone texture.
  • Position the cut tiles on each side of the corner, ensuring precise alignment. Apply tile adhesive and press the tiles into place. The result will be a smooth, continuous look that’s both elegant and professional.

While considered as the best finish when laying tiles on external corners, mitring tiles require experiences. It is for this reason that some less-experienced tilers might refuse the job and offer to use trims instead.

Ensuring Continuity

Regardless of the method you choose, it’s crucial to use the same tile on both sides of the corner. This approach ensures that the stone pattern remains consistent, creating a cohesive and uninterrupted look.

Whether you opt for the simplicity of aluminium trims or the finesse of mitre cuts, handling corners with Valais porcelain wall cladding tiles can be a straightforward process. Each method has its advantages, allowing you to achieve a professional finish that enhances the beauty of your space.
