This Preston, NSW renovation saw a dated ensuite transformed into a calm, functional and timeless space, carefully designed to complement the client’s previously renovated main bathroom while still feeling fresh and refined.
Having completed their main bathroom a few years prior, the homeowners were keen to carry a consistent design language into the ensuite. The brief centred around a neutral, understated palette with a soft concrete-look finish, something modern and elevated, yet warm and inviting.
Finding the Right Tile
During their tile consultation at Tile Lane, the clients were drawn to the Northport Grigio porcelain tile. While initially considering a more traditional concrete-look option, Northport Grigio stood out for its softer texture and refined movement. After viewing the sample in their own lighting, it became the clear choice, offering the perfect balance of contemporary style and subtle warmth.
Selected in a 600×600 format, the tiles allowed for a clean, modern look with minimal grout lines. Laid horizontally across the walls, they help elongate the space visually and create a seamless flow between floor and wall, enhancing the sense of openness without altering the existing layout.
Material Pairing & Finishes
Rather than reworking plumbing, the design focused on materiality and finishes. The warm grey tones of Northport Grigio pair effortlessly with a timber-look floating vanity, introducing natural warmth and softening the overall palette. Gunmetal tapware adds a refined contrast while remaining tonally cohesive, contributing to the understated, sophisticated feel.
Finishing touches such as a frameless shower screen and mirrored shaving cabinet with integrated LED lighting enhance both functionality and spatial clarity, allowing the tiles to remain the hero of the space.
The result is a beautifully balanced ensuite that feels cohesive, modern and enduring, demonstrating how thoughtful material selection can completely elevate a space without the need for major structural change.
