A Nature-Led Bathroom Design by Forest Gable House

Tucked into bushland surrounds, Forest Gable House is a deeply personal project, designed and built by Kristy and her husband, Mike, with a clear vision to create spaces that feel calm, grounded, and connected to nature. Nowhere is that philosophy more beautifully expressed than in the home’s main bathroom.

From the outset, the brief was guided by natural colours and organic textures, echoing the landscape that begins just beyond the back door. Green was always destined to play a key role, but as any designer knows, green is one of the hardest colours to get right. Light direction, room orientation, and surrounding materials can all dramatically shift a green tile toward blue or yellow undertones.

With that in mind, Kristy approached the selection process with a meticulous designer’s eye, sampling extensively across multiple suppliers to find a green that felt balanced, timeless, and harmonious within the space.

The solution came in the form of Tile Lane’s Marrakesh Green Zellige 250×50 Matt Subway Tile, a tile that delivered both aesthetic warmth and practical value. Used as a feature on the bathroom walls, the tile brings a quiet richness to the room through its softly varied tones, handmade character, and satin-matt finish. The subtle surface variation catches the light gently throughout the day, enhancing the organic feel without overwhelming the space.

Perhaps most surprisingly, the tile that best captured the vision was also one of the most affordable options considered—proving that thoughtful design doesn’t have to come with compromise.

“We are so happy with the end result and truly love the way the green tiles soften the space and make every use of the room a more relaxing one.”

The Marrakesh Green Zellige tiles introduce depth and tactility, elevating the bathroom from a functional space into a restorative retreat. Their imperfect edges and tonal movement sit beautifully alongside natural materials, reinforcing the home’s connection to its bushland setting.

This collaboration is a perfect example of how considered material choices, paired with strong design intent, can transform a space. Forest Gable House’s main bathroom stands as a refined yet approachable design story, where craftsmanship, affordability, and natural beauty meet seamlessly.
